Mixed Media Art Journal Page: Rain

Sometimes I think I should have been born in another country. Not because I don't love my country but because I don't like the weather! Most of the year it's hot and the summers are the worst. I love the cold, the rain and the snow...
So I thought maybe if I created a stormy art journal page the rain will be here sooner than later...

This art journal page was really fun to create and very easy. The background is all Gelatos with color spray that have a double role - wet the Gelatos and add color. I just layered color on color until I was happy with the way it looked.

Then I added texture with stencils, dimensional paint and gesso. I did it in a cool technique called double stenciling. it gives a great effect of two tone shapes.

Finally it was time to create the dripage effect. I wanted drop of water running down the page like rain. it was an easy task to accomplish with color sprays and a hit tool. After everything was dry I stamped a man with an umbrella on the bottom of the page and added a quote.

Now all I need to do is wait for the rain...

Mixed Media Art Journal Page: Flowers

Creating an art journal page always makes me happy. It inspires me not only when I create it but also afterwards, when I look at the page I created. That's why I always try to add a quote or a sentence that speaks to me, a sentence that inspires me and lifts me up.

This time I added a paraphrase of a quote made by the famous author Hans Christian Andersen who said that Just living is not enough one must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower. Well... I changed it a little. After all this is my art journal right?

I created the back ground with stencils and a really fun technique called reverse stenciling. I added gesso, Gelatos and stamping. The more layers of color you add to your page the better it will look that's what I always say. I added big circles with acrylic paint and sponge and smaller circles I created with Gelatos and a stencil.

I added a tissue paper butterfly and stamped a field of flowers. I colored them with water diluted Gelatos and colored pencils. To finish the page I added the quote. I wrote it on a white paper and colored it with the same Gelatos I used on the background and flowers. I also added a little bit of doodled flowers.

Mixed Media layout: You and Me

The best photos are those of family fun and experiences, and these photos are no different. Learning to ride a bike is a must experience for every growing boy and his father. I don't know how I missed these ones and haven't created a layout with them until today but better late than never!

 

I usually create pages with one photo but this time I wanted to use all the photos, didn't want to leave any of them out of the page. I started with creating a design triangle on the page with a little spraying and stamping. Then I layered pieces of patterned paper to create a frame for the photos. After I glued the photos to the layout I started the process of adding more color, texture and embellishments.

 

I used different designs of stamps like dots, checkers and net and created a stamped collage on the background. Then I added some color with a little bit of spraying as well as rubbing the spray paint with my fingers for a more muted effect. I also added rub-ons for more texture.

 

I finished the page with some large circles and stickers. I also added washi tape with a bicycle pattern and layered flowers and a chipboard bicycle to complete the look.

Mixed Media Art Journal Page: 42 is just a number

I'll be celebrating my birthday on Monday and I'll be 42 years old. I don't know why but it feels kind of old. I know in my head I'm young but I loo back at all the things I've done and it seems like it's not enough... So I decided to create an art journal page to cheer myself up and remind myself that 42 is just a number!

 

I started with creating a numbered texture on white cardstock with Spellbinders M-bossabilities Letters and Numbers folder. I tore some pieces and glued them to the page with gel medium. Then I covered the page with gesso.

I sprayed the page with spray paints and then enhanced the color with matching distress inks. I added more numbers with two sizes of numbers stamps.

Finally I cut the number 42 from patterned paper and added color with the same distress inks I used for the background. I wrote the sentence on a white piece of paper and added everything to the page.

I hope you liked the page and it has inspired you not to think of your age but to feel young because that's what counts!

Mixed Media Art Journal Page - Journey

I have a new art journal that I'm really excited to start! I decided that the pages in the new journal will have a theme. It seem to be more challenging and inspiring this way. The first page is all about the journey...a fitting subject for the first page of a new journal.

I started with coloring the background with two shades of blue Gelatos. They mix very well together when you wet them a little and use a baby wipe. I added some texture to the background with dimensional paint and a stencil. I drew a few clouds with a white oil pastel.

Then I created the mountain by adding layers of tissue paper. I also added a trail with a brown oil pastel. I cut my image from an old photo and glued it on top of the mountain. I stamped some houses on white cardstock and colored them with Gelatos. I cut them and glued them to the page.

Dance - Art journal page

Art journaling is a great opportunity not just to experiment with new techniques and materials but it's also a great opportunity to inspire yourself and create a project for your soul. This art journal page will always remind me to dance not just literally but metaphorically as well, simply let my creativity and my hands dance!

 

Start by coloring the page with Pan Pastels and baby wipes. It's a really easy and fun technique to create a colorful background. Add some stamps for more texture and interest. You can also add some patterns with stencils and Pan Pastels using baby wipe like you would use a blending sponge.

 

Cut images of dancing girls from a patterned paper, I used MME paper. Adhere them to your page.

 

Then add two large doily stamps and color them with distress ink and a watered brush. Write the title with a black pen and add whimsical and fun patterns to fill each letter.

Snowman mixed media canvas

Last weekend we had some crazy weather, lots of snow in not very high places, blackouts, hail storms and non stop rain. All that inspired me to go all wintery and create a snowy mixed media canvas with a happy little snowman.

I've reused one of my un needed 6" X 6" canvases and covered it with gesso. Then I added two large acrylic snowflake shapes and covered them with gesso as well. I added a little light blue color with a color spray and a baby wipe.

To create the snow I used two layers of cheese cloth that reminded me of the snow texture and whiteness. I added my stamped embossed snowman and a title. For more festive atmosphere I also added little snowflakes made from rhinestones and a little bling with stickles.

Sweet Music double canvas

I created this double canvas in one of Limor Webber's Israeli tour workshops. It was an absolute treat to be in this workshop although I didn't follow the teacher's instruction and gave the canvas my own interpretation.

I started with painting the canvas and adhering squares of paper on the background. Then I added texture with modeling paste, cutouts and dripage.

I added the title on a cardstock banner and embellished it with washi tape little flags.

For the other side I layered the photos on big distressed tags and embellished them with metal.

Finally I joined the two canvases with a hinge that I colored in the same paint as the canvases and stamped it a little for more dimension.

A long time ago

I recently found some old photos of me as a child and it made me really nostalgic. I decided to create layouts for them and then bind them into an album. This is a layout with a photo of me and my mom when I was tree years old.

I started the layout with a little dripage, stamping and spraying a Prima patterned paper. Then I cut flowers from the One-Up patterned paper from the Doodle Duex collection by Prima which I love and added them to the layout.

 

I cut the leaf shapes from the same collection's ribbon and also added one large flower. I added the title and the layout was done. Now I have to do the other layouts....
