Hot Ideas for Capturing Summer memories

Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it. ~Russel Baker
It's hot, it's humid, it's sticky and it's here! Summer! We love the long days, the sunshine, going to the beach and not going to school. We go on family vacation, go camping, and generally have loads of FUN! Part of my summer fun is to record these wonderful memories by creating fun layouts and mini albums. it's really great sitting on the carpet on a cold winter's day looking through all those summer layouts and remember the fun we had.
Here are a few hot ideas for creating layouts that will capture all your family summer fun!

Wet Layouts
Who doesn't love going to the beach or the swimming pool to cool off in the inviting blue water?  The water is always a great background for taking beautiful photos with a calm atmosphere or a splatter! There are so many activities to capture: swimming, diving, splattering, collecting sea shells, walking on the beach, learning to swim and so many more. Photograph as many as you can and create wet layouts or a wet mini album.

Going Camping
Not only for boys...camping is a family adventure full of photo opportunities. Building a tent in the woods, cooking dinner on a fire or sleeping under the stars, are all part of the camping fun. I even like to take a picture of the preparations, they are not less fun!

Summer Holidays
4th of July is a great photo opp. All the decorations and the fireworks are the perfect backdrop for festive photos and coordinating layouts!

Exploring The Great Outdoors
Hiking, walking, driving are all wonderful ways to spend the day exploring the wonders of nature and being outdoors. Having a picnic or swinging on a hammock are so relaxing and inspiring and can bee a source for funny and goofy photos, especially if the hammock doesn't want to play along...

So many ideas, so little time!
What are your ideas for creating special memories this summer? What ever they may be I hope you will have lots of fun and relaxing time with your family and friends!

Relax mixed media layout

Sometimes you get to take the coolest photo. I don't have that chance often because my kids are big and don't cooperate much with taking pictures. But this time it was just perfect. I had the coolest photo! I knew I would create a mixed media layout with it so it will shine!

I started with the background. I created a patterned with a stencil and sprays. Then added more pattern with distress ink and a second stencil.

I added torn pieces of patterned papers and tissue paper to add more color and texture. I also added cheese cloth which always reminds me of a fish net and goes well with the theme of the layout.

I decided not to use flowers for this layout so I added different kinds of embellishments; pieces of old jewelry, sea shells, a string and words I cut from a patterned paper. I also added metal rings which I colored with alcohol ink.

Check out the step by step video tutorial for all the details.

Together

It is always exciting to be spotlighted on Prima blog. This layout was one of the layouts picked for the June Build A Page challenge.

For this layout I used shades of blue, and I added extra texture with a piece of a Tull fabric. I also misted the paper a little with blue Glimmer mist.

Getting wet

Here is the July sketch for Scrapping Everyday Miracles. I'm so into the summer fun that I decided to create this layout with some old poolside photos.

I used papers from Fancy Pants, The Robin's Nest, Glitz and Jilibean design. I added K & Company and Chatterbox stickers. I also added a little glimmer mist and glimmer paint dots to create water splashes.

You can still enter your layout to Scrapping Everyday Miracles and have a chance to win a great prize.

Yummy summer – crafts for kids

Another DT sketch layout for Mad About Scrapping. This is a fun and easy layout that would be perfect for kids to create. I only used pieces of patterned paper and some stickers.
Now that the kids are on summer break we often hear the sentence "Mom I'm board", here is an idea…sit together and scrap. You can follow my layout or create something completely new.

Family Moments Mini Album

Today I want to share another great project: Family Moments mini album.  Summer is here and it's time for fun days and warm memories! This mini album is the perfect way to show your great summer photos.

The bright colors and cheerful embellishments make a wonderful sunny background that will compliment all your holiday, family fun time or pool side shots . This mini album is really big on style! The chipboard pages are covered with Maya road and Echo park papers and matching embellishments. There are plenty of fabulous accessories - the cardstock stickers, the die-cut shapes and the coordinating ribbons, as well as Fancy pants' beautiful letters and really fun embellishments.

On the front cover I added die-cut shapes, flowers and butterflies that create a carefree summer feel. This album works for just about any theme and the entire set of alphabet stickers allows you to create your own titles. Let the sunshine in and order your kit today!

Wonder

The July challenge at Scrapping Everyday Miracles is Created Beauty. Create a layout showing the beauty around us in nature, in people, in deeds and even things.
I created a layout with a photo of my two boys sitting on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Double beauty-a personal beauty and a universal beauty in one place.

Make sure to check out my fellow DT's beautiful creation and join in the fun of making a layout about beauty.

Exploring the ocean beach

Summer is here! All the DT girls in Scrapping Everyday Miracles recently played a really fun game. We had a contest between two groups: the first member in each group designed a layout according to a sketch. Then she passed it on to the next one, who didn't see the sketch and had only the layout to follow. It was amazing to see how each one had a different interpretation and how the layouts changed as we progressed. The team that won (mine) was the first to complete all the layouts by its members. Here is my layout for the contest:
I've used the beautiful papers from K & Company Sea Glass that have the most beautiful shades of blue and green. I added all kinds of scraps from my stash including clouds and a surf board. I also created the parasol from pieces of paper and drew flying birds.

Don't forget to enter your project to the SUMMER CONTEST, there's still time to join us and win a great prize, including the beautiful SEA GLASS paper pad I've used in this layout!

Challenges:
Cupcake Inspiration #166
Pile it on #26
Sketchabilities #73
Oldie but A goodie - Summer holidays
Paper play #26
Totally Paper crafts
Crop stop: Are u feeling blue?

Designer Craft Connection – Summer Picnics

Hey dear friends!

It's the first Monday of the month and it's time to go hoping with all the talented designers at the Designer Craft Connection. Our theme this month is summer picnics and I have a picnic layout with some fun techniques.
Whenever we go on a picnic my son loves to bring a book and just sit down quietly and read. This time was no different!

I've used some fun techniques in this layout:
Creating a tree – if you want a tree but you don't have one ready, simply make one yourself. Cut the tree from brown cardstock or paper and add leaves. The leaves can be anything you want or have: buttons, flowers, rub- ons etc. since I created this layout for My Punch's Kit of the month Club I had to use what was available on the kit.

Adding colors to letter stickers – I had some green AC stickers but I wanted to dim the green a little bit and add another color. I sanded the letters and inked them with distress ink. The ink went into the scratches made by the sand paper and created a unique look.

Make sure to visit all the designers' blogs by clicking the Designer Craft Connection blinkie on the right side of my blog and move forward or backwards.

Maximize your supplies – leftovers card

Cards a great way to use your stash of leftovers! I don't know about you but I have a drawer full of paper leftovers and for some strange reason it keeps on growing no matter how much I use its content. So every now and then I create a few cards from different kinds of papers.
This is a fun and easy card that is made from scraps of 7 different papers. The point of making a leftover card is to use as many leftovers as possible. The best way to do that is to pick a subject for the card and take out all the papers that are suited to the subject you picked. My subject was summer so I took out papers that had summer colors and summer patterns like surf boards, kites and flowers.
