Mixed Media Art Journal Page: 42 is just a number

I'll be celebrating my birthday on Monday and I'll be 42 years old. I don't know why but it feels kind of old. I know in my head I'm young but I loo back at all the things I've done and it seems like it's not enough... So I decided to create an art journal page to cheer myself up and remind myself that 42 is just a number!

 

I started with creating a numbered texture on white cardstock with Spellbinders M-bossabilities Letters and Numbers folder. I tore some pieces and glued them to the page with gel medium. Then I covered the page with gesso.

I sprayed the page with spray paints and then enhanced the color with matching distress inks. I added more numbers with two sizes of numbers stamps.

Finally I cut the number 42 from patterned paper and added color with the same distress inks I used for the background. I wrote the sentence on a white piece of paper and added everything to the page.

I hope you liked the page and it has inspired you not to think of your age but to feel young because that's what counts!

Altered Steampunk Notebook

Altering things is so much fun and environmentally good because instead of throwing stuff away you reuse them, upgrade them and alter them into something new and exciting! I always have a small notebook with me to write ideas, doodle things and make lists, so instead of living it as it was I altered it into a steampunk extravaganza. This is a DT project for Spellbinders that I had a lot of fun creating!

Steampunk is basically a genre in art that combines Victorian age machines and mechanical parts with fantasy, science fiction and more to create art. So to create the steampunk look I used clock parts, springs, metal parts and embellishments in a collage of "moving" parts. I also created a dark look to the cover to enhance that look.

The main focal point of the notebook is the mini shadow box created by upgrading the front cover and adding a the Spellbinders square bezel filled with clock parts and other embellishments.
A little tip: when you work with small parts to create a collage use tweezers to help you position all the different embellishments exactly where you want them.

Happy Hannukah card with Spellbinders

Hanukkah is just around the corner! In two weeks we'll light the first candle and start the eight days holiday which is one of my favorite holidays.

Here's the first card I created for the holiday, first of many I still need to do...

This card tells the story of Hanukkah through it's bright yellow and red colors which mimic the colors of the candle's fire. It will also look great next to the Menorah because it can stand on its own.

For this card I used papers from the amazing Sunset collection by Prima. I created the front of the card with one of my Spellbinders embossing folder Numbers and letters. This embossing folder I so easy to use and has such an amazing effect! I cut strips of paper to create the candles and added flames I cut from the same paper. To finish the card I added a big 8 and a title.

Saturday MIXTRAVAGANZA - Mixed Media Bulletin Board - Video Tutorial

We are all so busy in our daily lives. No wonder we forget the little things we need to do. I have found a great solution...create a bulletin board to hang our notes so we won't forget!

I'm so happy and excited to share the second project in the Saturday MIXTRAVAGANZA series. This bulletin board is made from canvas and embellished with cute birds sitting on a wire and in the tree. On the wire I've added small clothes pins to hang my notes and reminders.

Scrap your jewelry

DT project {Spellbinders International Blog Ambassadors}
I'm usually not a jewelry person. I love all things paper and I always thought jewelry was not my thing. I thought so...but I guess I was wrong, because when I saw these beautiful Spellbinders bezels I just couldn't resist. I created a three part pendant filled with vintage treasures.

I started with spreading a little glitter inside the bottom triangle and then attached a piece of an old vintage jewelry on top of it.

 

In the middle part I put a metal flower and embellished it with pearls.

The upper small circle was filled with small metal beads and adhered on a large metal flower.

All the bezels were filled with ice resin I also embellished the necklace itself with a few beads and buttons.

Spellbinders Upcycled Juice Carton

I'm so excited and honored to be the first designer to kick off the new and inspiring International Flair section in the Spellbinders blog SpellbindersExploreBeyond.com!
To celebrate this new exciting adventure I'll be sharing with you all a great fun tutorial on how to upcycle your milk/juice empty carton.

This project is all about displaying your photos where everyone can see them! The carton will be transformed into a wonderful house frame holder for your memorable photos.

 

 Here's what you'll need to create this project:

Spellbinders Nestabilities – Labels On

Spellbinders Media Mixage – Triangle One Bezels, Triangle One Dies, Ephemera Papers Two

Patterned paper - 7 Dots

Martha Stewart Border Punch

Flowers - Prima, Kaiser Craft

Key Embellishment – K&Company Metal Art

Brad – Recollections

Acrylic Paint – DecoArt – Americana – Buttermilk

Gesso - Ranger

Mask – Prima (bricks)

Brown Ink – Ranger

Resin – Ice Resin

Other – Metal chain, rings and hinges, beads, glitter

1. Prepare the carton: empty it and wash it thoroughly. Let it dry completely before closing the cap.

2. Cover the carton with Gesso (including the plastic cap). Let dry.

3. Paint the carton with acrylic paint of your choice. I used buttermilk. Let dry.

4. Create brick pattern on the carton with the mask and distress ink.

 

 5. Punch strips of patterned paper with a border punch. Adhere on the top diagonal part of the carton to create the roof tiles. Add strips to the front of the roof as decorative trims. Ink the edges. TIP: when you adhere the strips around the cap, mark the place of the cap with a pencil and cut the strip to fit.

 

6. Cut frames with Spellbinders Nestabilities and adhere on all sides of the carton. Combine different colors of paper and different sizes of frames to make it interesting!

 

7. Add metal hinges (I got mine from a DIY store).

 

8. Create metal flags: Cut triangle paper shapes with Spellbinders Media Mixage Dies and insert in compatable

9. Attach rings to bezels and hang the bezels to a metal chain. Ahere the chain and triangles to the carton so they will stay exactly where you want them. I also added a brad to give the illusion that the chain is hanged.

10. Add key embellishment and flowers all around the bottom of carton. 

11. Now all you need to do is cut your photos with the frame dies and adhere them to their place!
