Maximize your supplies – make your own flowers

This layout is a tribute to my Grandmother who passed away a few years ago. She was a great inspiration to me especially in a creative way. She had hands of gold, she could sew beautifully, cook divinely and everything she touched was always in the best of taste.  I hope a fraction of that found its way to me…
My father told me that when he was a boy she used to sew all his cloths and costumes. So as a tribute to her I decided to create the embellishments on the layout myself. It felt right to honor her this way.

I used a few techniques:
1.       Swirl flowers – a very easy way to create flowers and an excellent way to use your scraps, because all you need to do is cut a spiral in a circle, roll it and create the flower. You can find a full tutorial in my 101 flowers tutorials.

2.       Layered flowers - I punched a few flowers and layered them. I gave each of them different dimension by making a slit in the flower and adhering the two leafs one on top of the other, making it 3D flower.

3.       Colored flowers – I had a few paper flowers in my stash but they were in the wrong color. So I misted them with the color I wanted. Then I inked them and misted them again. The ink blended with the mist because of the water and the flower changed

This was a really special layout to create, not only did I preserved a memory with my grandmother I used some scraps from my stashed and maximized my supplies.
