Mixed Media Art Journal Cover

I have recently started a new art journal. It has a cover with images I don't really like because they don't have an artsy look. So I decided to create a new cover!

I first had to cover the images that were on the journal so I painted it with three coats of gesso. Then I sprayed it with different colors using different stencils. Don't forget to dry the layers when you work otherwise they will be one big blur.

I added more color with Gelatos that I rubbed with my finger.
Finally I added embellishments. Some of the embellishments were hand made with Mod Podge mold and melt. A really easy and fun technique to create your own embellishment.

I didn't just want to write art journal on the cover so I added a quote about art by Pablo Picasso with a pen nib and black ink. That is a great way to write on a treated surface like this. You might destroy your pen if you try to write with that.
