Printer's tray – A moment in time

I have already told you the story about my grandma. Last Saturday we celebrated her and my Grandpa's birthday. It was a great party, special and emotional, a birthday that requires an equally special gift. Here is the gift I made for them: a printer's tray telling the story of their lives and family.

Four of the twelve boxes have photos of our family and the rest of the boxes each tell a little story about a piece of their shared history.

I used different techniques and materials in my creation and a lot of 3D elements. The most visible are the flowers, which some of them were misted and painted. I also included papers, buttons, stickers, stamps, ribbons, lace, embellishments and some less traditional materials like fabric, pearl necklace and a small crochet I did myself.

They were really happy and excited to get this present and it's now hanging on their wall. I'm so happy!

Technique corner – all you need are words

Every now and then, although I adore flowers, I feel like doing a layout with no flowers, no elaborate embellishments, just something simple, quick and easy. This is a DT layout I did for My Punch's Kit of the Month Club.

This layout is really easy to do, because it has the most basic embellishments of all…words. I didn't put any flowers, bling, swirls or cutouts, I used word stickers. This way I killed two birds with one stone: I embellished the layout and I wrote the journaling. It all goes well with the theme of the camera and photography, since the words are all in that subject. This type of simple embellishing frames the photos and gives them the focus.

Valentine's Day Card Contest

Ins(paper)ation: a tribute to Grandma

This week my grandmother will celebrate her 85^th birthday. She is a remarkable woman who has inspired not only me and our family, but generations of students through the years. My grandma is a holocaust survivor who endured the horrors of the war in concentration camps, labor camps and a death march. After the war she got married and had two daughters, twins: my mom and my aunt. This is a DT layout for My Punch's Kit of the Month Club with a photo of them.

She became a high school history teacher and for 30 years she has instilled in her students the love of past events. During the years she wrote teaching plans for the holocaust and instructed many teachers. She wrote several books on that period culminating in her PhD and awards she received for her continuous holocaust education in the national level.

She has inspired many people including me to overcome difficulties, be excellent in what you do and share your passion and knowledge. I hope each and every one of you has someone like that in your life.

Baby Card tutorial

There are so many designs for a baby card. But for this baby (first born of a dear friend of mine) I wanted to make something special, something different. I thought about it for a long time and one day it came…the perfect idea! A knitted card!

The card is really easy to make (if you know how to knit):

1. Knit a square that is a little bigger than the card you want to use.

2. When finished wrap the card with the knitted piece (the same as you wrap a book with paper) and adhere to secure.

3. Add embellishments. I added a small sock attached a safety pin and added stars, ribbons and a title. I "hanged" the sock with two small laundry pins I painted blue.

You can make a pink version for a baby girl.

Maximize your supplies: create your cut out flowers

This is a DT layout I did for My Punch's kit of the month club. Whenever I design layouts for the kit I try to make as many layouts as possible with the materials I've got. The problem is I don't always have as many embellishments as I need, and I always need a lot of embellishments.

The solution is to create my own embellishments. One of the papers in the kit was this pretty Echo Park paper.

I cut different sizes of flowers and wrinkled them in my hand. I inked their edges and layered them with 3D foam tape for extra dimension. I added rhinestones in the centre for a finished look.

Frames Freebie

Here is another fun freebie for your digital and traditional scrapbook layouts and projects.

You can cut the frames after printing them, color them and add embellishments. You can also print them on a pattern paper or a cardstock and then cut it. If you are a digital fan, you can add the png file to your design. They can frame a photo, be an embellishment or a journaling spot

Clock canvas (number 2)

You really liked the clock canvas I did last year. So much that it was voted by all my readers as the favorite project of the year. Here is a new clock canvas I recently did that I wanted to share with you.

On this canvas I tried two new things. First, I created two separate canvases with the same theme, color palette and coordinating embellishments. Then I combined the two pieces into one by attaching the two canvases with a flowerpot hanger. The big canvas was the "wall" that held the hanger and the smaller canvas hanged from it.

Second, layers. Not layers of paper, but layers of canvas. I adhered a small size canvas on the big one to add more dimension a difference of height.

One of the things I like to do on canvases is to write with a pen nib. I wrote one of my favorite quotes with black ink on the bog canvas and added a sentiment to the other.

A tag doesn't always have to be a tag

Sometimes I like to dive into my stash and fine forgotten treasures. The last time I did it I found a white chipboard tag with a really nice shape, not your ordinary square tag but a tag with a scalloped top. I don't know why, but for some reason when I looked at it I saw it not as a tag but as a card.

I took the tag and adhered it on a cardstock I folded in half. Then I cut around the borders of the tag to give the card the same shape. I wanted to use some of my scraps (my scraps drawer is too full!) and I found a piece of paper full of flowers. I cut the flowers and adhered them to the front of the card some with 3D foam tape to give them a little dimension. I added a sentiment and inked the edges.

Now I have to find someone to give it too.

You and Me – Creative Journaling - DCC Blog Hop

What a better way to open the new year then a creative inspiring blog hop with my designer friends from the Designer Craft Connection! This month our theme is journaling. The magic of words, a collection of letters telling a story, a memory, a feeling.

My creation is a layout with a very special photo: a photo of my mom and my aunt when they were little girls. This layout is part of a birthday scrapbook I'm making for my mom's 60^th birthday. It's going to be a unique scrapbook because all the journaling is going to be written by different family members. Each layout will have the story from the point of view of the person in the photo. For example: my boys will write the journaling on the layouts showing their photos, with all their feelings, experiences, memories and love for their grandmother. The journaling on this layout is going to be written by my aunt, her sister.

The layout has a hidden journaling spot. I created a pocket from the photo and inserted a journaling tag to the pocket. In order for it to be easily pulled out I created a "handle" from flowers. When the tag is closed the flower handle is a part of the design and blends in with the other flowers.

101 Flowers Tutorial #11: Crochet and Paper combo

Here is another great flower tutorial! This time a combination of two materials I really like: paper and crochet yarn. This flower is a merger of the two materials, and when I say a merger I mean these two materials are connected to each other and can't be separated, The paper petals are crochet to the flower center and not glued!

Here are the instructions:
(I initially tried it with fabric but the hole kept tearing so I replaced it with paper).

1. 6 chain stitches and close with a slip stitch.

2. Row 1: 9 single crochet stitches and close with a slip stitch. The single crochet is not through the chain stitch but around it.

3. Row 2: double crochet stitch, 2 chain stitched. Close with slip stitch.

4. Cut 7 petals in two different sizes. Punch a hole on the bottom of each petal.

5. Row 3: crochet the petals: take one large petal on top of it put a small petal. Turn them over. Put the needle through the holes and to the chain. Then crochet 2 single crochet stitches. Turn the petals back up.

6. Then stitch 2 chain stitches followed by 2 single crochet stitches. The single crochet stitches are not through the chains but around them and into the hole created by the stitches in the previous row. Then repeat with another petal.

7. Row 4: 42 single crochet stitches.

Since I'm not a professional crochet artist writing the instructions was a little difficult. Please feel free to ask me any questions or even email me!

Maximize your supplies: elements on paper

It's not easy scrapbooking with a tight budget and in this day and age everybody tries to save some money. We don't have to stop buying products, just find new ways to maximize the products that we have or buy. Here is one idea on how to do just that.

This is a layout with the materials from My Punch's October's Kit of the Month Club. The paper I used for this layout is by Webster's Pages. I wanted to embellish my layout with some butterflies. So instead of using stickers or cut-outs I used the butterflies that were already on the paper.

I cut each butterfly's wings and left the centre uncut. This way I could lift up the wings and give them a little dimension.

I adhered a piece of paper under each butterfly to cover the hole and secured the wings with 3D foam tape. Then added a few embellishments and a title and my layout was ready.

There is nothing more personal, more loving and more beautiful than a handmade gift. I wish I could always give my family and friends handmade gifts, unfortunately it takes time to make them and time is always short! However, this time, I made it! A good friend of mine is celebrating her birthday and I made her an inspiring canvas for her new craft room.

It's a happy, flowery, cheerful canvas that will hopefully give her inspiration and encouragement if she doesn't feel like creating, or her muse has left her.

The funny thing is that I thought I didn't like yellow. I hardly ever use it my projects, I don’t wear it and nothing in my house is in yellow. But for some reason I made this canvas in a yellow pink combination…who knew that yellow could be so pretty.

Single Sheet of Paper Tutorial: Gift box

Just in time for your new year's gifts, an easy, fun and inexpensive gift box you can make yourselves from only one sheet of cardstock!

Here is a sketch with all the measurements:

1. Cut a square 10 5/8" by 7" from one sheet of cardstock.

2. Mark a divide line 5" from the top. This line divides the square to two squares A and B.

3. Cut 1/2" from both sides of square A. This would make it smaller than square B.

4. Make four fold lines 1" from all three edges of square A and the divide line.

5. Cut slits where lines marked red on the sketch.

6. Make four fold lines on square B: three lines 1 1/2" from the edges and 1" from the divide line

7. Cut slits where lines marked red on the sketch.

8. Fold all lines.

9. Fold slits inside and adhere to the walls to create a box from square A. repeat on square B.

10. Embellish your box.

Ins(paper)ation: a layout for my inspiration

My first born is a constant inspiration for me. From the day he was born, he was special. Little did I know how true that would be. Years later he was diagnosed with PDD and we began a special, challenging and sometimes difficult journey. This journey has taught me so much about life, about love, about patients and about joy. This (not so little) guy has inspired me in so many ways and gave me strength to get up and WALK a journey of my own.

Sometimes a story can be told in only a few words. This layout has the same logic. A simple layout for you my son, that tells a huge story. I wanted to make it a simple layout so the center of it will be you. No big embellishments or title, just an image of you walking, walking on the path of life. Keep on walking tall, smart, happy and loved!

Technique corner – Magic of Creation

This is another DT layout for My Punch's Kit of the Month Club. I really like this layout because it has in it one of my favorite things in scrapbooking: a scene. The scene has a magical atmosphere about it, mainly because the image of the girl (me) blends effectively into the background and seems to be part of the paper.

This look is very easy to achieve:

1. Find a photo where the image has clean lines that will be easy to cut. In my case I had to find an image of a person sitting, because I wanted to use the bench on the layout.

2. If you put the image on something, like in my case, a bench, make sure that the sizes fit. Cut the image.

3. Build the scene. I stamped a street light and added grass from a blue ribbon and flowers.

4. Add a title.

The Hebrew journaling sais: when you have creativity in your blood, you start early and never stop.

Hanukkah Freebie

Here is another great freebie for you, and this time especially for Hanukkah! This freebie can be used as a journaling spot, as a frame for a photo or as an embellishment for all your Hanukkah projects.

If you want to use it in your digital designs, just copy the PNG file to your computer and add it to your project. You can add color, change the size, add shadow, glow and other effects. You can also use it in your traditional designs! Copy it to your computer and print it on a piece of paper. Cut it and add to your project. You can color it, add glitter or adhere it to the paper with 3D foam tape to add dimension.

101 Flowers Tutorial #10: flowers from the heart

A holiday is a great opportunity to give someone you love flowers from your heart. It can be a wonderful bouquet of flowers or it can be flowers made from heart shaped punches.

All you need to do is cut or punch different size hearts and assemble them in flowers shape.

I wanted to share with you my layout that was recently published on the Prima blog as part of the Build-A-Page contest. I wanted forever to send one of my layouts to the BAP contest, but I never had the time. Finally, last October I found the time to sit down and create a page according to the sketch. Every holiday has to have a proper holiday meal. You know, the big family meal with all the good food, the same jokes and the nagging aunt… I always like to set a really beautiful, festive table and in order to avoid problems; I make name cards, so everyone will know where to sit. This is a very easy to make name card – just cut two trees from a green scrap of paper, embellish them and add a name. Then adhere the trees to a piece of white cardstock to create a snowy forest scene.

A really fun project to make is a countdown board for the holiday. I decided to make one from Sizzix 3D Gift Toppers Die. Instead of using the toppers on a gift I used them as a small countdown board for my desk! This way I can never forget how many days I have before the holiday and how little time I have left to do all the things that need to be done! Every day I take one day off and I know the holiday is getting here really fast!

Hanukkah and Christmas both take place in the winter, at least in the northern hemisphere. However, not everyone gets snow and gets to build cool snow men. I love the winter; unfortunately where I live…there is no snow. So, to honor my holiday wish I created a frosty card full of glitter and shine! The tag can be attached to a gift, embellish a layout or be a holiday card. It is very easy to make: spray a little blue glimmer mist, add some eyelets and stickers and add a sentiment. Make sure not to forget to add a lot of bling!

Day 8 project: Digital Freebie

For all of you digital designers out there, here is a treat for you. An original digital stamp for all your layouts or cards. All you need to do is download it to your computer (PNG file) and use it!

All of the traditional scrappers, please do not despair. You can use this stamp in traditional scrapbooking as well. Copy the image to your computer and print it. You can print it on a nice piece of paper, mat it and embellish it. You can also cut it and adhere to any project you want.

Day 7 project: A holiday card

This card is really simple to make. I made it easy and fast on purpose because this is what I like to call my "quick card". A quick card is a card you need to make many copies of and fast. This is the type of card I give to people I'm not so close to but I still want to give them a little attention. You can make it for people at work or other acquaintances.

All you need is to ruffle a ribbon, cover it with a strip of paper and add a flower. Adhere all that on a wide scalloped strip of paper, and you have a card!

I created this gift card holder with the Sizzix Gift card holder pop up Bigz Die. I made it for my mom for Hanukkah and intend to give it to her as a card with another gift. You can make this card for any holiday or occasion, simply by using different papers and embellishments.

Day 3 project: Photography tips

Today I want to share some ideas for great holiday photos. These are photos of last year's Hanukkah, but you can use the tips for any holiday photos you want.

1. Take the photo from up close – to get all the details, like the, melting wax I took the photo of the Menorah from a really small distance. I put my camera on micro (the small flower) and took the photo with no flash.

2. Take a photo of clusters – to really convey the holiday spirit in my photo I took a photo of all the doughnuts on the plate. I did the same with the spinning tops that my kids were playing with.

Presents cost a lot of money and it's difficult buying everyone a present with today's economy. Why not make our own present? It's fun, fast, easy and much cheaper. In that spirit I decided to make my niece's present by myself. I made her a gift book.

This gift book is like a book of vouchers. Each page of the book is a different gift.

You can make a gift book for your husband and have gifts like: A day with the guys, a romantic night out, tickets to a basketball game or the movies etc. if you make the book for your mom it will have gifts like: a day at the spa, breakfast with friends, girls night out.

Day 2 project: Cuttlebug Magic – Napkin holders

Christmas tree: I used Spellbinders Nestabilities to cut layers from a few green pattern papers. Then I attached them on top of each other with foam tape to give them a look of a Christmas tree. Finally I adhered the tree to a strap of green paper that I attached at the edge to create a ring shape.

Menorah: I used Spellbinders Nestabilities to cut 4 different sizes of frames. I cut each frame in half. I adhered the halves to my background with foam tape to give it dimension. Then I added the centre candle holder and leg from strips of paper. Finally I added the little flames. I attached the background to a ring shaped strip of paper.

Why I love bikes layout

Everyone in my family loves bikes. Well..almost everyone. I'm not a big fan. I wanted to create a special layout with bikes photos, but I wanted it to be really special not just with a bicycle sticker or cutout.

I decided to make a wheel layout, a layout that would turn like a wheel of a bicycle. This is a DT layout for My Punch's Kit of the Month Club. It is made of two papers and a brad. I cut a window in the round scalloped paper and attached it with a brad to the center of the background paper. Then I adhered the photos to the paper. First the bottom photo, then I turned the wheel and added the second photo. I added embellishments and a title to finish the layout.

BTY I didn't have any bicycle sticker or cutout in the kit, so I ended up drawing it myself!

First gift is ready!

Wow! I'm so excited; December is just around the corner! I have planned an amazing, inspiring December Marathon with a great giveaway. Tune in next week to find out all about it!

This Friday marks the beginning of my "start making gifts or you'll miss the holiday" month. Actually it's only 3 weeks and the clock is ticking!! I have to make all my presents and cards and time is short. Here is the first gift I made: an embellished frame that can be hanged on the wall or stand on its own. I plan to make a few more of these and after they are ready to add photos according to the recipient.

This is a wooden frame I covered with patterned paper and sanded the edges a little. Then I added matching festive embellishments.

Technique Corner: Open a window

This is another LO I did for My Punch's kit of the month club. The LO has a really fun and easy technique you can do in any layout or card, a window technique. The window has a double purpose, it frames the photo and draw your eye to it, as well as add interest and dimension to the LO.

Here is how to do it:

1. Measure the photo you want to use.

2. Draw a photo size square on your paper.

3. Cut the square in three places: the top and bottom lines.

4. Open the paper to the sides and create your window!

To enhance the window effect you can add a balloon like I did, or clouds, birds and even sun or snow.

Digital fall cluster Freebie

Have I got a treat for you! After getting such great comments on the Fall Cluster tutorial I got in a creative mood and decided to create a digital version as well. This cluster is full of flowers, leaves, branches and other details, all in beautiful fall colors.

You can use it for your digital projects such as cards or layouts. All you need to do is save the image (png file) to your computer. You can also use it in traditional projects simply by copy the image, resizing it and printing the cluster on a cardstock or pattern paper, cut it in any shape and add to your card or layout!

Recycled Crafts – FaveCraft Blog Hop

We're hopping again with all of our friends at FaveCraft! This time we're all sharing recycled projects! Great ideas and inspiration on how to create wonderful projects using everyday objects, leftover materials, things you don't need anymore and even things you want to throw away.

My project is a printer's trey. But this is not your ordinary printer's trey, the one you buy at the craft store. My trey is made from an old tea box I didn't need. At first I wanted to throw it away, but then I saw its compartments and I had an idea: why not turn it into a printer's trey?!

I painted it and added photos. To make it interesting I gave each photo a little curve. Then I added a few handmade embellishments. I made it really simple and easy because as it turned out, I ended up teaching it in a few classes for girls and teenagers.

101 Flower Tutorial #9: Fall Cluster

Fall is in the air! It's my second favorite season (the first one is winter). I love it when the skies turn grey, the leaves turn orange and yellow and the first drops of rain clean the streets. So, of course today's flower tutorial is going to be all about fall. You can make this fall cluster for all your Thanksgiving cards and layout and you can make it in a larger scale as a center piece for your holiday table or to decorate the front door.

1. Take different size and color flowers and adhere them together.

2. Cut pieces of metal wire and swirl the edges.

3. Punch or cut leaves from yellow and orange scraps of paper and attach to the wire.

4. Attach the wires and some more leaves to the bottom of the flower.

Ins(paper)ation: Home is where the heart is 3D frame

In spite the fact that I don't celebrate Thanksgiving (since I don't live in North America) I think it's a great tradition to appreciate the things you are grateful for. Life has a different meaning if you stop and take stock of all the things you are thankful for. This wonderful tradition has inspired me to create something for and about my family. I created a 3D frame with a family photo, layers, embellishments and one of my favorite quotes: "Home is where the heart is". I first colored the frame with a white acrylic paint. After it was was dry I painted it with brown color. I created the distressed look by sanding the brown layer up to the point where the white color was showing.

I built the book shelf from a few scraps of wood. I painted it with brown acrylic paint and added a distress look with a little bit of white paint. I created the mini books by folding a piece of white paper and wrapping it with a "cover" made from cardstock.

The flower pots and vase including the flowers are created with quilling techniques.

The small grass bed is also built from scraps of wood. It is filled with plain white paper and covered with green flower soft to create the look of grass. The letters are hels by pins stuck to the "grass".

Don't forget to stop for a minute and be thankful for what you have!

Sizzix Fresh Vintage Blog Hop: How do you feel?

Welcome to the last Sizzix blog hop featuring the new Fresh Vintage dies by Eileen Hull. Today we are using the beautiful, versatile Petal Flower die.

You may ask yourselves what possibly can the designers come up with now, what can they create from a flower that we haven't already seen? Well, to answer this question just keep on hopping to see all the wonderful projects created by these talented designers. To view the hop, you can click on the Fresh Vintage blinkie on the sidebar. This will take you around to all of the designers on the hop. You can see projects that have already been posted here.

I have decided to use the flower not as a flower but as a clock, a mood clock! I can turn its hands according to my mood. It came out so pretty that it will serve another purpose, to improve my mood on a bad day!

Here is how you can create your own mood clock:

1. Cut ten petals of each size and two small flowers from a pattern paper. I used some lovely papers from Grant Studios.

2. Adhere the large petals to the small flowers. Adhere the small petals on top of the large ones. To finish the flower adhere the small flower in the center.

3. Write different moods or feelings on the petals.

4. Attach two hands to the center of the flower using a brad
.

5. Create a 3D frame and adhere to a background paper.

6. Add a title and embellishments.

Personal scrap jewelry

How many times did you look for just the right piece of jewelry and couldn't find it? It happened to me so many times, the color is wrong, the shape is too big, the mood is completely off and you left with the what you have worn so many times before.

Well..I think I found a solution, Make your own! I know I'm not inventing the wheel and that people have been making their own jewelry for a long time. However I want to share with you my way of doing it and combining my love for paper and scraps.

You can take a piece of acrylic block and turning it into a pendant by adhering a pretty pattern paper on the back and attaching a small metal ring for the necklace. Another way is to take a small metal frame and insert a square of paper in it. You can stamp the paper, distress it or paint on it. On top of the plastic add a little bling and you're set to go.

Or you can take a bottle cap and create a more 3D pendant. Punch a circle from pattern paper and adhere to the inside of the cap. Add handmade flowers, rhinestones and some metal embellishments.

Sizzix Fresh Vintage Blog Hop: 3D Flower #2

I'm so excited to be a part of another Sizzix blog hop. This time I was asked to create a project using Eileen hull's new 3D flower die. I had a lot of fun playing with this die and trying different possibilities.

To view the hop, you can click on the Fresh Vintage blinkie on the sidebar. This will take you around to all of the designers on the hop. You can see projects that have already been posted here.

This die is versatile you can create flat layered flowers for layouts, journals or cards or build a 3D flower to embellish boxes, canvases and home décor projects.

Card with Layered flower

1. Cut two sizes of 3D flower die from patterned paper. I used a paper with a floral pattern from Grant Studios. The die has one size, so in order to change the flower size cut a smaller piece of paper and positions it with in the center of the die.

2. Layer the flowers and adhere with foam tape.

Pop Up Flower

Inside the card I created a pop up 3D flower.

1. Cut eight 3D flowers. Cut each flower in half so you will have 16 halves. Divide to two groups of eight.

2. Adhere two halves to each other. Add the other six halves in the same way.

3. Repeat with the other group of eight halves.

4. Adhere the two parts of the flower to the inside of a card. Make sure to put adhesive only on the first and last flaps.

3D mesh flower embellishment

I decided to experiment with another material besides paper.

1. Cut five 3D flower die from Mesh. Each flower will be one petal in the final flower.

2. While they are folded string the flowers together using a needle and thread.

3. Distribute the flowers evenly. Adhere to the top of a box.

Technique Corner: My guys, a loving LO

A special tribute Lo I made for my three guys from My Punch's monthly kit. There are a few fun and easy techniques in the layout:

Puzzle pieces with rub-ons

1. Adhere the puzzle pieces with a little temporary adhesive to a piece of paper to keep them from moving.

2. Add the rub-on on to the puzzle pieces.

3. Gently cut the rub-on along the edges of the puzzle pieces.

4. Remove the temporary adhesive and attach the puzzle pieces to the LO.

Waves of music

1. Draw "music" lines with a pencil.

2. Add different sizes of rhinestones on the lines.

101 Flowers Tutorial #8: Beads in the center!

Hello friends! It's time for another easy, fun, pretty flower tutorial. This time we'll give some lovin' to the flower center and create a really fancy center from beads:

1. Punch 3 flowers. The shape or size doesn't matter.

2. Ink the edges and give them a 3D shape.

3. Thread small beads on a piece of thin wire. The length of the wire depends on the size of the flower you punched. The bigger the flower the longer the wire. I used 2" flowers with approximately 3/4" piece of wire.

4. Decide which flower you want to be on top and insert the edges of the wires through the center of the flower. Make sure the wires stay in their place by adhering the edges with a little scotch tape on the back side of the paper flower.

5. Twist the wires to give them the desired shape.

6. Attach the other two flowers to create a 3D flower.

I'm so excited! Finally I can share with you my new blog feature: free digital stamps!

Every month I will post a new stamp that you can use on your projects. All you need to do is save this stamp in your computer. The stamp is a png file that you can change to any type of file you need. Here are a few ways you can use this stamp:

• Digital scrapbooking – drag the stamp to your LO, color it, make it bigger or smaller and even multiply it.

• Traditional scrapbooking – print the stamp on any piece of paper, cut it and add to any Lo.

• Cards – you can add the stamp to your Digi or Traditional cards.

• Paper crafts – create a banner, a home décor decoration or add to a photo frame.

Technique Corner: maximize your products: part 2 – create a magical LO!

Last time I shared with you how to "stretch" your products and how to use existing embellishments to create even more embellishments. Today I want to share how to stretch your paper. How to take a pattern paper and use its pattern to create a LO.

I used a paper from the lost and found collection by My Mind's Eye. I got the inspiration from the paper itself. When I saw the squares on the paper I immediately thought to use them as frames. However, there were only two squares and I wanted to use three photos.

So I took a tag from the same collection and cut out the frame. This way I had another frame and I could also use the tag for a different LO.

Then I cut out the inner part of the frames, creating a hole in the paper. I adhered the photos to the paper from its backside, so the frame will have a more real look. I used the written sentiment on the paper as a title and added embellishments.

That's it! My LO was done. A really inexpensive, interesting, rich LO that was created by using elements on the paper instead of adding extra ones.

Technique Corner: maximize the products you have: part 1

Have you ever been in a situation where you wanted to do something on your LO but didn't have enough supplies or the right products for it? This is what happened to me when I designed this month's Kit for My Punch.

I found a really cute photo of my sun having fun on the grass. A great photo like that needed an equally great LO with fun embellishments like flags and flowers. The flowers were not a problem I cut them from a pattern paper that was on the kit.

But I got stuck with the flags: I wanted six, but only had three. I had the Lost & Found stickers, which are so beautiful, but have only three flags and one tag. So I decided to transform them into six flags by cutting them.

Try to maximize your supplies and stretch them as far as you can!

Sometimes you are lucky and you get inspiration a double dose. This is the story with this LO. I was driving my car and the radio was playing the Beatles song "Baby you can drive my car". I immediately thought about my dear husband who doesn't like me driving his car. He will let me drive the car, sure, but if something will happen to it…I'm in big trouble, so I would rather not. Then I thought…wouldn't it be really funny to do a LO about it? So I did! Another "My Punch" DT LO and a funny one too!

I showed it to my hubby…he really liked it!

Single sheet of paper: Top 10 Mini Album

If you are like me, a fan of projects made from only a single sheet of paper, you must love all the pattern papers with the journaling cards on them. They are perfect for small, fast but great one paper projects! Here is a mini album I made from Victoria Gardens journaling cards paper by Echo Park as a DT project for My Punch Kit of the month club.

You can do it too:

1. Cut the paper into two leaving the upper 8 journaling cards as one block. Leave the other part of the paper aside, we will use it later.

2. Make a slit in the middle of the paper piece two journaling cards across.

3. Make three fold lines starting from the left: first and third fold lines valley and the second middle fold line a mountain.

4. Fold the paper into a mini album.

5. Now you can use the remaining piece of journaling cards to embellish your mini. I chose a theme of top 10 things I love about you. You can insert journaling cards into the pockets created in the mini album.

Technique Corner: Hanging

I wanted to share with you a great technique that would make your LO's interesting and fun. Creating a LO with hanging embellishments or photos gives your page movement and flow. It is very easy to create hanging elements and give you're LO that extra something.

Here is how it works:

1. Pick the right photos or embellishments: these photos would either have to be with a hanging motif, like an omega ride or laundry hanging outside, or embellishments you want to hang in order to give them a special appearance.

2. Create a hole in the photos embellishments so you can thread a twine, ribbon or a string through them.

3. Arrange the elements in the way you would want them to hang and adhere to the page.

4. Thread the twine or ribbon gently through the holes and adhere it to the LO.

You can arrange all the hanging elements in a row or diagonally, anyway you choose, but in whatever way you do it you will definitely get a striking LO!

Westcott Pink Challenge – DCC Blog Hop

It's the first Monday of the month which means it's time for another Designer Crafts Connection hop! This month we had to create a project using the products from these three companies: Westcott Brand® Cutting Tools, who are sponsoring the hop, the Duck Brand® and VELCRO® Brand, and since October is Brest Cancer Awareness Month it had to be pink!

For this challenge I decided to create a purse from the amazing products I got!

Here is how I made it:

1. I used the pink Velcro sheet to create a purse by folding it in three. The great thing about the Velcro sheet is that it is duel sided with the male and female on opposite sides! This way I didn't have to use any adhesive.

2. I cut small slits on the sides to create flaps to fold and close the purse.

3. I folded the Duck Tape so a small strip of the adhesive will show and created ruffles on the edge.

4. I add Velcro duel sided strip.

5. Then I created a scalloped Duck Tape border. I punched a piece of paper and trace the pattern on to the Duck Tape. Then I cut the pattern with Westcott craft knife.

Since I had so much fun, I decided to create another version for the purse, a "younger" version for a girl.

6. I add another Duck Tape border with a cool pattern of Hello Kitty.

7. I cut one Kitty image with the fabulous 3" fine cut scissors ad attached it to the purse.

Today Jews around the world celebrate the beginning of the New Jewish year: Rosh Ha-Shana, which literally means "the head of the year". This year we celebrate the beginning of the year 5772 (long time…). It is customary to eat an apple dipped in honey, a symbol of our wish for a sweet happy year. Another custom is to greet each other: Shana Tova which means Good year.

My happy New Year card has yummy apples and honey bees flying around their hive.

I want to thank all of you for a wonderful, exciting year. You all gave me support, encouragement and love. May you all have a happy new year! Health, happiness, love and successes!

Photography tips – Back side

Photographs are magical because we capture moments in time. Moments that will never happen again in the same way. The best way to capture such a moment is to take the picture when your subject is unaware you're taking it. To achieve that you either have to be invisible or, if you can't manage that, take the picture from behind! Some of my best photographs are those of my kids when I photographed them from behind where they couldn't see me. To take photos from behind here are a few tips:

1. Wait until you see your subject do something interesting, go behind them and take a picture with their back to you.

2. Back side photos work best when kids watch TV, play on their computer, run ahead of you or look at something. In all these situations they probably won't pay attention to you and you can sneak behind them.

3. Photos taken from behind are especially interesting because they give us the point of view of the person we are photographing. If a child is looking at the fish in the aquarium we get the feeling that we are looking through his eye and we see what he is seeing.

Try and find your opportunities to take interesting fun photos from behind!

Technique corner: Create your embellishment - Button tree

I usually have only an idea when I sit down to create a LO. I start working and then the ideas start to flow. But sometimes I have an idea but not the specific thing I want to use. This time I wanted a tree beside the path I created, but since this LO was for the Kit of the Month by My Punch I had to use the materials in the kit and there was no tree. So, I decided to create my own.

Here's how you can create your own tree:

1. Cut the shape of the tree from a cardstock.

2. Color it with ink, acrylic paint or any other medium you like.

3. Add different size and color buttons as leaves.

Creating your own embellishments gives you a chance for creativity and allows you to use an embellishment that is suited exactly to your project!

Scrap fun with Ingvild Bolme – Part 2

I told you how much fun we had with Ingvild on Friday and now it's time to show you what we did. This is a great beautiful layout full of Prima flowers and goodies. Ingvild's layout looked a little different but part of every workshop is to add your own personal touch and interpretation.

Scrap fun with Ingvild Bolme - Part 1

I just love days like this! Yesterday and today I had the pleasure to attend two classes with Ingvild Bolme from Norway. We had a lot of fun creating projects with Prima products, and boy, did we get Prima products. Each kit was packed full with goodies: papers,8 packages of flowers, letter sheets, metal embellishments, journaling cards, ink, adhesive, mini album, sticker sheet and the list goes on.

We also had the pleasure of working with Ingvild's new tools! These tools are just great. The knife is super sharp and flexible and there is an option of changing its angle if you want. The distressing tool is basically 5 tools in one: two files one rough and the other gentle, bone folder, distresser and a metal brush. It is all on one tool! Very clever!

You can already see a hint of one of the projects we did, but I want to finish all of them so I can share them with you. They are truly amazing. Tune in on Monday to see the great stuff Ingvild has taught us.

101 Flowers Tutorial #7: ribbon flower

I love ribbons, you love ribbons, everybody loves ribbons! Why? Because they are so versatile, pretty and fun. One of my favorite things to create from ribbon is flowers.

From each ribbon you can create two sizes of flowers: big and small, all you need is a needle and thread:
1. Thread the ribbon on the bottom.

2. Pull the thread to crease the ribbon.

3. Join the two edges with the thread.

4. To create a smaller flower fold the ribbon in half length wise and repeat the first stages.

5. To finish your flowers add a brad or a button in the center.
6. You can create layered ribbon flowers too!

Designer Crafts Connection: Baby Shower Box

Technique corner: Layout with a hinge

I shared with you before my passion for interactive scrapbooking. I don't know, something about moving parts in a scrapbook layout just does it for me. Interactive scrapbooking can be anything as long as you have to discover a hidden secret, a photo or a message. It can be hidden in a small booklet, a turning wheel or even a pocket. This time it's hidden behind a door! But not just a regular door, but a two sided photo door and just like any door it has a hinge that keeps it attached to the paper.

Here is how to create a hinged door on your layout:

1. You will need two photos in the same size. I used 4" X 6" photos. It is the same photo, one in colors and one in black and white.

2. Attach a hinge to one of the photos using two brads. I used regular hinges I bought at the hardware store.

3. Adhere the other photo to the back of the first photo, hiding the legs of the brads.

4. Attach the hinge to the paper using two brads.

5. Add a hidden message or journaling behind the photo door.

6. Embellish your layout!

Back to school: a special Mini Album for a special teacher

It's time to go back to school! I always have mixed feelings about going back to school, I want the house back to myself, but I love spending time with them and I enjoy the time off from all the driving, baking, volunteering…. This time of year always reminds me of my son's first teacher. She was one of a kind! She was his teacher for four years and she is largely responsible for his amazing progress. We all cried when it was time to say goodbye. Luckily his new teacher is just as great and the class gets to meet their old teacher when she comes to visit.

I wanted to make her something special when she left, something to help her remember all the wonderful moments they shared during those four years. I decided to make a special mini album in the spirit of learning. Each page is dedicated to a letter in the Hebrew alphabet, total of 22 letters. The title of the page begins with a specific letter that is also embellished or emphasized (don't forget that Hebrew is read from right to left). The theme of the page coordinates with the title. For example: the bowling page is titled "bowling" (in Hebrew).

You can easily make this book in English, just remember to start taking pictures from the beginning of the year so you can capture all the year in your mini album.

Ins(paper)ation: Beginnings

We will be celebrating the Jewish New Year in about a month. This time of year always gets me in a special beginning mood. I get the motivation to start new projects, make changes around the house, make resolutions for the new year ahead and make plans for my life, my business and myself. This layout was inspired by this mode of new fresh things. I was thinking of all the new things this coming year will bring and I remembered I had an old photo of the best beginning ever…a new baby! This is the ultimate beginning of them all, a new person, a start of a new life. This photo is of my best friend's daughter, a daughter she has been waiting for a long time and that has brought her new happiness and love.
In this layout I've used felt shapes to give it a soft, gentle, baby feel. I also added lace and tulle that emphasized that soft cuddly feeling. I cut the photo into a flower shape to ech the title and embellishments.

I love writing for eBooks, it's one of the greatest advantages of the internet: you can have a complete idea book for free straight to your computer. You don't need to worry about space or the environment! I was asked to contribute to a great eBook: "33 Summer Wedding Ideas".

My contribution was wedding layout with a full set of instructions and a materials list. The eBook is full of great ideas and inspiration for a beautiful wedding. "Wishes" Mini Album

In one month time Jews all around the world will celebrate the beginning of the new year. So, it's just about time for me to start working on my New Year's projects. This mini album is a present for a dear friend and it's all about wishes. Each page of the album is a wish from me to her. Here is the first page (I promise to share all the other pages after I have given it to her):

This wish starts on one side of the page and ends on the other: "Find the…one". The entire mini album is made from Glitz's Whatnots, paper layers and transparencies. The minute I saw them I decided they were perfect for creating this mini.

How to use your scraps tutorial – FaveCraft Blog Hop

It's time to go hopping again! Today all my designer friends at FaveCraft are posting about a project finished on the 15th. This time I want to share with you my Free Spirit layout and an easy fun technique to use your scraps or better yet your wrappings.

In this age of recycling, some of the companies are creating wrappings that we can use as embellishments or paper in our projects. This way instead of throwing the wrapping away, we can use it in our project and help make the environment cleaner. In my layout I used a prima small stamp wrapping as an accent. The bright turquoise color complements the other colors on the layout and the scalloped edges add dimension and interest. The scalloped edges were originally part of the wrapping, so I didn't have to change it. It even had cute birds on it that were just right for the a layout theme.

Try to think of more ways to use your leftovers and scraps and help keep the planet cleaner.

101 Flowers Tutorial #6: Button Flowers

I love buttons. They add a soft, homey gentle touch to every layout as well as texture and interesting dimension. There is another special reason I like to use buttons in my creations. They were a gift, a gift from my late grandmother. My grandmother used to love her sewing and she had a huge button collection. It was all organized in small boxes according to color, shape and size. After she passed away my dad and aunt went through her things and found her buttons collection. Knowing me, they knew I would want to have that collection and they gave it to me. Ever since then I know that whenever I use a button from her collection she's up there smiling. So, in honor of my grandma's collection today's flower tutorial is all about buttons.

All you need to make all these flowers are different shapes, sizes and colors of flowers:

1. Use two flowered shaped buttons on top of each other with a round button in the center to create a dimensional button flower.

2. Use different sizes and colors of round buttons to create a layered flower.

3. Stamp a transparent button and adhere it on top of a color button for a transparency effect. Find out how to stamp a button here.

4. Combine different materials. Create layers using plastic and metal buttons.

5. Adhere very small buttons in the center of a very large button to create the look of stamens.

6. Create a flower from multiple flowers arranged in a pattern.

All these beautiful flowers will give a unique, special and interesting look to any layout or card.

Summer cards contest

All this sunshine inspired me to add to the heat and challenge you to a summer contest.

The rules are really simple:
1. Create a card with a summer theme. It can be for any occasion but it has to have a summer feel to it.
2. Post about it on your blog.

3. Add your card to the contest to the link at the end of the post.

Here is mine, a sunflower card I made for my mom for the Jewish New Year.
