Mixed Media Art Journal: Four Pages Set

Sets are always fun. You have everything coordinated and matched, colors, patterns and theme are already "talking" to each other and you don't need to figure out how to make everything look good together. This is exactly what I was aiming for in this art journal set. I created four pages that are color coordinated, have the same theme and go together beautifully.

The first step was cover all pages with gesso and seal them. Then I added Gelatos to create the background. I used baby wipes to add the gelatos to the paper. Each page got the same colors but in a different order so they will not look the same but still create a matching set.

To create the set I wanted all pages to be visible at the same time so I created a gradual effect by cutting each page slightly smaller than the one under it. Then I added a pattern by punching it with a border punch.

Then I added different stamps to each page, but they were all in a floral theme. I also colored some of them to enhance the pattern and add more dimension to the colors. I used some really fun Gelatos techniques including painting and stamping.

For the final touch I inked all the edges of the paper with distress ink and added a little doodling on each page. Watch the full video tutorial for all the tips and the full process.

How to create Peeled Paint effect?

If you're like me you really like easy and fun techniques to create striking effects. Well, this peeled paint technique is not new but it's always great to use oth on paper and on canvas. In this Saturday MIXTRAVAGANZA video tutorial will be using this technique on a canvas.

Start by covering the canvas with a paper to create your background base. If you're using a double sided cardstock like me then check out the video to find out how to soften it with water and making it more flexible to work with so covering the canvas will be easy. Once the canvas is covered seal the paper with Gel Medium. Sealing the paper is very important for the next steps. If you're doing this technique on paper the process will be exactly the same.

In order to create the peeling effect, which is basically a resist technique, use Vaseline. Apply it to the areas where you want the paint to peel. Then paint all over it with acrylic paint. The water base acrylic will not stick to the oily Vaseline creating the peeling effect. Dry the paint and use a paper towel to remove the paint.

If you want a multi color effect then repeat this process using a different color each time. To finish the canvas I added a few words in different techniques: stenciling, stamping and painting chipboard letters.

Let it Snow Christmas Card

Some of you may have noticed but for those who didn't I've joined the Ann Butler Designs design team. Ann is a fellow designer who has some great inks and stamps that are so fun to play with. For this Christmas card which is part of the 12 cards of Christmas 2014 series I used Ann Butler's inks and stamps to create a snowy winter scene.

I started with Ann Butler's inks I used Lilac and Aquamarine to create the background. Then I stamped the background with Ann Butler's EZ De's hearts clear stamp. I embossed some of the stamped pattern with Clearsnap clear embossing powder and the other with white powder to create an effect of falling snow.

I colored chipboard letters with the same ink colors and set the ink with a heat tool.
I created snow from white and clear UTEE and glitter mixed with glossy accents.
To assemble the card I took a Prima Marketing vine and glued it to the card. Then I added the snow on the bottom of the card and on the tree branches. I added the letters and add a little snow on them as well. To finish the card I added letter stickers to complete the sentiment.
