Mixed Media Collage Canvas

Hi everyone!

I thought a lot about what to give my sister for her birthday. Ironically, in the past I used to buy her gifts never thinking of making her one myself. This year I decided to change the tradition and create her gift myself! I wanted it to be really special and beautiful so I created a collage mixed media canvas with a photo of us when we were kids. This is her favorite photo of us so I was sure she will like it.

The technique for this canvas is not new and can be found on You Tube and other websites. All of these techniques are inspired by Anna Dabrowska also known as Finnabair. I played with this technique and I wanted to share my insights and experience with it and a few new ideas as well.

The step by step video tutorial shows you how to create these colorful, shade changing, textural effects from start to finish, and also how to incorporate a photo in your creation.

Romantic Steampunk shadow Box

I think shadow boxes are just magical. They combine two things I love, the first is boxes. I love them, I collect them, I buy them even if I don't need them. You can put all your treasures, memories and secrets in a box. The second thing is touching. One of the reasons I love traditional scrapbooking and not digital is you can feel the page. You can touch it, go over all the elements with your hand and bond with them. Bond with the story.

So a shadow box is a mixture of the two. It's a fabulous place to keep small treasures and memories, but they are not stored behind the lid they are speak to you directly.

I created this shadow box with a romantic steampunk style that I achieved by using a patterned paper from the Le Romantic collection by Graphic 45 combined with metal embellishments and an industrial colors.

In this project I used a few really fun and interesting techniques like: paint layering, building a hanging mechanism and embellishments layering as well.

Watch the step by step video tutorial to learn all the techniques and create a shadow box from start to finish.

Spooky Halloween House

Altered art is fun and useful. instead of throwing away our packages and boxes we can turn them into something nice. This is exactly what I did with this milk carton....it was transformed into a spooky house that can be used as a photo display or a centerpiece for Halloween.

As you can see in the video a coat of paint and a some embellishment can change even a milk or a juice carton and take it to another level. If you don't have Halloween embellishments you can create some like I did.

World Card Making Day - special project

Happy World Card Making Day!
It's always fun celebrating days that are all about crafting. To celebrate this special card making day I'm sharing a special card I made.

This is a double window folding card with a mixed media background.

I created the background with acrylic paints, lots of stamps and a stencil.
The two windows were not easy to create but you can watch the video to find out the solution I found for that.
I hope you'll be inspired!
