Embellishments Galore!

CHA is always a source for a lot of fun and inspiration! Here's a simple but pretty project courtesy of one of the adhesive companies in the show.

All you need is a felt bag or purse and lots of embellishments like flowers, buttons, beads and more, then you can start the embellishing party! Mix and match the shapes, materials and colors and you'll get a really wonderful creation!

Few materials - Lots of inspiration

One of my favorite thing in CHA are the Make & Takes, and one of my favorite Make & Takes this year was the Ranger project. We didn't get a lot of materials but each one of them was packed with beauty and inspiration.

I, of course, had to change my project a little bit and I created a 3D card. I raised the film strip before attaching it to create a little bridge to hang embellishments. I hen used stickers and Washi tape to add more dimension to the background. I added a little metal look with staples, little metal frame and a pen tip.

I really like the red and black color combination and all the cute little embellishments like the round wooden number, the safety pin, the glittery Eiffel tower and the crumbled ribbon.

CHA - it's almost over!

This has been the most amazing show! It went by too quickly and tomorrow it'll be all over. I was so happy to meet old friends and make so many new friends who are so creative and talented! I also got a chance to put a face to all those Facebook names I only met on my computer.
It's difficult to share the excitement, the fun, the talent and all the beauty of a show like this but here is a little, a very little taste!

All work and no play? not exactly! The last evening of the show was celebrated in a great Hawaiian Luau party!

See you all next year!

CHA 2013 - DAY 1

It was the night before CHA, when all through the house,
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse...
Just a badge and a lot of tickets on the bed.....this was just the beginning...

Wow....this has been an amazing first day!

I was so happy to meet all my designer friends after a long time we haven't seen each other. The show floor is not opened yet but I was really busy arranging my Designer Showcase table and my Designer Display at the CREA8TE booth. I was lucky to have my good friend Lilach with me, she was a huge help with her flowing creativity and never ending patience.
Here's my Designer Showcase table, on the show floor for the first time. I'm looking forward to see how it goes...all of us designers are really excited to be a real part of the show this time.

Tomorrow the show starts! We'll be having fun looking at all the new products and lines, Make and Takes and surprises in stored for us on the show isles... I'll have plenty of great photos to share with you so make sure to stop by!

    Family Frame Cluster

All of you loved the "Home is where the heart is" frame and showered me with kind words about it! You inspired me to create another frame cluster, this time with quieter colors and a more romantic feeling.

This cluster is going to be the star of a new workshop I'm teaching and I can't wait!

It was really fun creating it, because I used colors I usually don't use and I had to create my own embellishments, as part of the techniques taught in the class.

Maximize your supplies - Use your scraps!

Use your scraps! It's good for the environment, it's good for the pocket and it's good for the soul (because it's less clutter....). Here's a layout I created from scraps and left over materials.

Here are all the tips for creating a layout like that...

    1. When you use leftover materials, the biggest problem will probably be the letters. Some of them were already used and you have to use what you have or mix up a few types of letters. This is why I started this layout from the title. When I was sure I had a fun title I picked my paper and my photo.

    2. Pick a paper that has a theme or build in embellishments, this way you will not have to add a lot of extra stuff.
    3. I picked a paper with kites and continued from there. I found a photo of my boy sitting down and cut it. I cut two kites from paper scraps and added twine. I placed the photo as if my boy is sitting on the kites' tails.

    4. I added a balloon made from a round sticker and pieces of twine. I cut the basket from a scrap of paper. I also added flags I cut from scraps of paper. For a final touch I drew some clouds with a black pen.

    5. I added the title and a little distress ink around the edges.
Use your scraps to create embellishments so you can save money and energy to tidy it up!

    Telephone Scraplift Fun!!

To celebrate the new year a few friends and I decided to have fun with a telephone scraplift game! It's always interesting to see the initial sketch compared with the final layout and the journey in between.
Here's the layout I got from libeeti.

    Here's my interpretation....

Two major things happened in my layout. The first is the style, I completely changed the style and the mood of the layout, by taking it to a more mixed media look. The second is the interpretation of the sketch, I used the main motifs from libeeti's layout and made a different interpretation.
    * Two photos, the right one with a frame: libeeti used a paper frame, I used a canvas framed that I misted.
    * Three round embellishments: in libeeti's layout there are two doilies and a big paper flower, I used patterned paper circles.

    * Horizontal borders and strips: I used a few materials for the borders such as paper, lace and bandage.

    * The W flags shapes: I used the W shape and created little W tip flags.

    * For embellishments I added hexagons and cork letters.

Keep hopping and check out the next blog for an inspiring interpretation! (click on this sentence)
