All wired up!

Here's a question for you…does scrapbooking always has to be on paper?
Well…my answer is NO! I love exploring the boundaries of scrapbooking and creating layouts that are not necessarily on paper background. This layout is made of wire…yes wire!

I created a 12X12 square from red wire by twisting it in all directions. This square was the background for my layout. I added pieces of paper on the back to enrich the colors of the background and plenty of embellishments on the front.

I attached the photos to the layout by threading them through the wire after inserting eyelets to protect them. I added ribbons by weaving them into the wire. I also tied threads and hanged tags. To add more texture and dimension I added all kinds of bids that were threaded to the wire.
It was really fun and challenging to work with the wire in this unique and different way. It allowed me to work with the other materials in a differently and use them in new ways.

Technique Corner: Collection of photos

I recently went through my stash of photos, not on the computer but those I have already developed and I found a few small photos I really like but don't seem to go together, at least not at first glance.  When I took a second look I realized they can make a wonderful layout.
Here are a few tips on how to create a layout with photos from different occasions, ages, people etc.

1.       Try to find the common ground in all the photos. It can be color, person, place, time of year and so on. In my layout all the photos are of my son.

2.       See if there is a narrative to the photos. For example in my layout the photos show my son through the years.

3.       Keep the photos together in your layout. This way they would seem to be a series of photos.

4.       Create a design that can go with many themes of photos. I used flags and butterflies because they go well with any age or mood.

Getting wet

Here is the July sketch for Scrapping Everyday Miracles. I'm so into the summer fun that I decided to create this layout with some old poolside photos.

I used papers from Fancy Pants, The Robin's Nest, Glitz and Jilibean design. I added K & Company and Chatterbox stickers. I also added a little glimmer mist and glimmer paint dots to create water splashes.

You can still enter your layout to Scrapping Everyday Miracles and have a chance to win a great prize.

Easel Card

Easel card I made as part of the Kit of the Month by My Punch's projects. I took a white card and added all kinds of embellishments to create more dimension and height.
Creating an easel card is really easy. You take a card and fold the front flap in half. You add a "stopper" on the inside of the card, so the flap could stand and that's it, your easel is ready! You can find a tutorial for the colored rub-on black flower here.

Yummy summer – crafts for kids

Another DT sketch layout for Mad About Scrapping. This is a fun and easy layout that would be perfect for kids to create. I only used pieces of patterned paper and some stickers.
Now that the kids are on summer break we often hear the sentence "Mom I'm board", here is an idea…sit together and scrap. You can follow my layout or create something completely new.

Technique Corner: Groovy - scrapping a period

I love this word! It reminds me of the 70's, not that I'm old enough to remember, but I've seen movies and listened to the music and it seems to be a groovy period. I had this photo for a long time and for some reason it always reminded me of the word groovy…so I created a groovy layout.
To create a layout with a periodic theme you need to add the right kind of embellishments to complement the period you want. In this layout the photo speaks for itself, so I added some 70's themed accessories like the sign of peace, a few punched (free) butterflies and some groovy flowers, all to complement the….wait for it…groovy atmosphere!

Technique corner: Safety pin on a layout

I usually don't like to go with the flow but this time even I couldn't resist….hexagons, I love them! I can't get enough of them and whenever I have the chance I try toinclude them in a design.
This layout is all about hexagons. To make it a little more interesting I added some texture and movement by adhering the hexagons to the layout in different heights.  I also used a safety pin to emphasize the idea of safety in a home and family. I added some buttons to the pin so it will stand out more.

You are my sunshine freebie

Summer is in full swing and the heat is definitely on! Here is a little freebie to jazz up your projects!
Since it has a square shape it's really easy not only to use it on a digital project but to print it, cut it and use it on a traditional project like a scrapbook layout or a card!

Maximize your supplies: Follow your dream card

Here is another card made of scraps. Each and every material here is a leftover from the July kit by My Punch. I always challenge myself after I finish designing all the layouts to design some cards from whatever is left. As the designer of the kit's projects I try to inspire scrapbookers as well as card makers.
I took a piece of double sided cardstock and then added flower shapes I cut from another paper. I also added some punched circles and cut a butterfly and birds to complete the card. I divided my sentiment into two parts: "Follow your" is on the cover and the card has to be opened to see the second part: "dream".

Almost a man

I don't know how it happened but I have a 13 year old boy. How did it happen so fast? It seems I only looked away for a minute and time flew by so quickly. I look at him now and he's almost a man…
This is a DT layout for My Punch's Kit of the Month Club. The layout has two visible photos and a few more photos hidden in the little book. Just like my son said to me: "Mom, Some of my thoughts are private, this is how a teenage boy is!" that sentence inspired me to create a book with thoughts and photos that would only reveal its secrets when opened.

101 Flowers Tutorial #17: Colored rub-on

Many times rub-ons are black and sometimes you may want to add a little color. Today's tutorial is all about how you can do just that.
1.       Cut the shape you want from the rub-on sheet. Make sure to cut it with its protective paper.

2.       Separate the rub-on from the protective sheet and turn it over.

3.       Pick a color pencil and color the empty spaces inside the black lines of the rub-on. The rub-on has a layer of adhesive even on these spaces and the color of the pencil simply colors that layer of adhesive.

4.       Apply the rub-on to your project in the usual way. The color will come off as well giving you a colorful rub-on!

Here's how it looks on a layout:

3 in 1 card

Every time I get My Punch's Kit of the Month I'm amazed how many things hide in it. I always make between 4-6 layouts and then I like to make cards from all the leftovers. Here is a card that is actually three cards…3 in 1!
The front cover doesn't have a sentiment, but there is a journaling block to write for whom the card is. When you open the card a second part is revealed.

When you open the card again you find the inner part. I didn't plan on the card to look like that but when I started I couldn't stop and I created another part and another. How fun is that? 3 cards in one!

Ins(paper)ation: Old memories Young hopes

“We must always have old memories and young hopes” Houssaye

What a beautiful and true phrase that inspired me to create this mixed media tag with a vintage feel to it.

I started with misting the tag with Glimmer mist. Then I adhered a doily to the tag and covered it with Gesso. I stamped the tag with a really cool type writer stamp by Prima and embossed it. I stamped it again with some staz-on black ink. I added a butterfly created with resist technique and a crumbled paper. Finally I added the Title partly written and partly with Prima Alphabet.

Rope fun

Here is another DT sketch layout for Mad About Scrapping. I really enjoyed the sketch this time because it had flags in it and recently I have a thing for flags on a scrapbook page. They add such a cheerful and happy feeling to a layout and they were perfect for the photos I had.
Since my computer died on me (not to worry I already have a new one) I couldn't develop any of my photos, so I had to look into my developed stash which was mainly old photos…or so I thought. I found these adorable photos and knew immediately they would be perfect for this sketch.

I've used The Robin's Nest patterned paper for the background and some scraps of paper for the flags and other bits of paper.  If you want to join the fun, create a layout according to the sketch and maybe win a prize you can go to Mad About Scrapping!
