Technique Corner – windows in a paper

As all of you already know my boys are crazy about anything with wheels. This layout tells the story of one very happy day...a day at the Motor Park, a place filled with cars of all shapes and sizes. You should have seen my boys' faces, all smiles and joy even when they were waiting in line.

For this layout, I used the Road map paper from the little boy collection by Echo Park. This paper is so much fun! To create the windows in the paper, I cut out pieces of paper in between the roads and attached the photos on the back side of the paper keeping them facing forward. I added pieces of road strips from the cut pieces of paper where it was needed to complete the frame around the window. I added a little bit of solid color to balance the "noise" and to emphasize the photos. For the final touch I added a journaling block embellished with a small car and some words, and a few buttons in coordinating colors to counter all the squares and right angles.


Try using your paper in a different way such as cutting pieces from it and replacing them with photos.

1 sheet of paper tutorial – Love Letters mini album

I really like scrapbooking and paper projects that are fun, fast, not expensive and beautiful.

This got me thinking of different ways to make a project from only one sheet of paper. The idea is to create a project that can be made using only one sheet of paper and all the embellishments added to it will be only a suggestion and not a must.

The first project is a cute mini album titled Love Letters.

You will need:

1 sheet of double sided cardstock

Embellishments – if you want

1. Cut three 4" by 8" rectangles. Fold them in half to create squares.

2. Adhere two of the rectangles back to back only near the edges of the paper, leaving a pocket.

3. Adhere the third rectangle on the outside, wrapping the other rectangles. Put the adhesive only on three sides of each square, leaving pockets facing sideways.

4. From the strip of paper remaining cut three tags: 4" by 2" and a quarter, 4" by 3" and a quarter and 4" by 3" and a quarter.

5. From the remaining piece of paper create a diagonal pocket on the last page of the mini album, by adhering a triangle to the bottom left corner of the page. Make sure to put the adhesive on the two straight edges of the triangle.

Make a mini album filled with loving words to someone you love!

When Creativity knocks

One of the most exciting things for a designer in CHA is the designer showcase. Each designer has a chance to showcase their imagination, creativity and skill in a personal presentation. Different ideas, projects and creations are all arranged on individual tables, for the viewing of editors, manufacturers, publishers and press. This is a collection of the new trends, "how to" projects, articles, Books and project you will see in magazines, catalogs, workshops and TV programs in the next six months. This is where it starts, where the connection between the designers and manufacturers and editors starts. I was part of the showcase and all its benefits.

Out of all of the designers participating in the showcase a few of us had the honor to be interviewed by Ana Araujo for When Creativity Knocks website. I'm back!

Sorry for being away so long. After getting back from CHA I got a really bad case of jet lag that later developed into Pneumonia. After a long good rest I'm back and feeling great!

I still have one or two stories from CHA I want to share with you. One of them is a project I was part of as a designer. Each of us got a box of products from different manufacturers and had to create a project, using the products. All the projects were a part of the Scrap Perfect booth exhibit and demonstrated as different Make & Takes during the show.

I decided to create a layout with some fun textures and dimension. I adhered the photo on EcoArtBoard squares by Rubber Stamps Concepts to create different heights. I added extra textures by using Crafter's Workshop stencil with acrylic paints and Magenta's cork stickers. I also added a few dew drops and torn strips of paper. I stamped the chipboard butterfly and added pearl shimmer to make it shine.

All these techniques and more were a part of the Make & Take I did in the booth during the show.

CHA – Day 4

Today was a very full and exciting day (like all the other days of the show. I continued my journey on the show floor…you will not believe how big it is. I had to stop by one of my favorite companies Graphic 45, and boy, was that worth it. Their display is one of the most beautiful displays on the show. Diane Schultz did it again; she designed amazing new lines and created a vintage extravaganza!

In the afternoon I taught a really fun Make and Take at the Scrap Perfect booth. We embellished a journal with all kinds of products like papers, paint, stamps, foil, shimmers, stickers and dew drops. Each journal was a piece of art with a different style and colors. Everyone who did the Make and Take had a beautiful creation and dirty fingers, what a joy!

CELEBRITY WATCH!

I was really excited to finally meet Stacy Cohen from Creating Keepsakes magazine in person. I have seen her work but never met her. It was a lot of fun talking to her and sharing design ideas especially on Jewish holidays' layouts and cards.
