CHA – Day 3

There are so many new and beautiful paper lines and products but you can see all of them on the companies' websites. What I wanted to share with you are the originality and the imagination of the displays. Some of the companies really took it to the next level and created some amazing displays. One of my favorites was the DCWV display. Their designed a paper fashion line, a set of beautiful dresses all made from paper!!! It looks like fabric, but trust me…it's all paper!

SEI took their new lines and created cute, cheerful and fun mobile. So simple and so beautiful.

The people from The Ribbon Company were probably very hungry when they designed their display. Look at all the yummy cupcakes and cakes…they are all made from ribbons!!!

I also liked the GCD bycicle!

CELEBRITY WATCH!

I had a lot of fun today meeting some of my old friends around the show floor. Donna Downey was in a hurry, as usual, to get to her demonstration.

Natalie Kalbach, a Tattered Angles DT member from Germany was busy with her demo.

Birgit Koopsen from the Netherlands was checking out some new products for her workshops.

And Natasja Verbeek a Cosmo Cricket DT member was teaching her "Make & Take"

I'm off to start day!

CHA Convention - Day 2

Today the show floor was opened and we all poured in to see the innovations, new product lines and beautiful creations. There were so many amazing things to see, I couldn't decide what to take a picture of first. But just to give you taste of what I'm talking about here are some of the wonders the show had to offer.

A lot of the manufacturers had really cool "Make & Takes". I joined the fun and did a few of them. The first one I did was Zip Dry adhesive Make and Take. We embellished a canvas with papers, Flowers, butterflies and buttons.

Then I did a few flowers for my badge at Spellbinders, Bella Blvd and Hero Arts.

CELEBRATY WATCH!

You know that even the scrapbooking and craft world has its celebrities. All those names we know and love (or not) will probably make an appearance in the show to share their knowledge, promote their lines and products or teach a workshop or two. I even managed to spot a few of them today! Claudine Hellmuth from Ranger and Tim Holtz.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's adventures!

CHA Convention – Day 1

I'm finally here! After a long wait and too many hours on the plain, I have arrived to the show. This first day was filled with exciting workshops, meeting old and new friends and walking, a lot of walking. Of course this is just the beginning, because the major walking will start tomorrow when the show floor will open. One of the main exciting things today was handing over my Craft Studio innovative creation. Craft Studio is a special CHA Designer member project in which 24 designers received one type of material to create a project from. Each designer is also required to demonstrate the innovative technique used in the project and the way it was designed. I can't share the project with you yet except its name: Scrappin' wire.  Meanwhile, here are some photos of the Craft Studio sign.

Another highlight of the first day was the workshops. One of the workshops was the Tombow Technique workshop, where we had a lot of fun with a few new products and techniques. I especially liked the Craft Collection which is a collection of double brush colored pens including a blending pen that can create all kind of fun and cool effects on paper, flowers, metal, wood and more. Another great product is a new glue pen with a pin point to allow detailed gluing. It can also be used in a resist technique in combination with the colored pens.

I can't wait for a lot more fun tomorrow….

My wedding scrapbook…the beginning

There is a saying in Hebrew: "the shoemaker walks without shoes". Well…it's also the case with scrapbook designers! I don't have a designed, beautiful wedding album! After 15 years of marriage I decided to change that and start working on it. That decision was about a year ago and I haven't made a lot of progress. I only made a few layouts and I still have many more. This layout is one of the few I did and it is designed with a patterned paper from the Einat Kessler's collection. This paper has combinations of letters from the Kabala that are believed to bring different blessings.

See you next time at CHA!

Treat for CHA – Technique Corner

I love going to CHA Trade Show! I love meeting old and new friends, seeing all the new products, having fun in the workshops and my favorite is the designer showcase. I have been working on all my projects for the showcase and everything is almost ready! Besides the treat that is CHA, I wanted to treat myself to something cute, so I decided to make a small canvas tote bag to carry all my tickets and ID card. It has my name on it and some inspirational words and techniques:

1. Adding color to canvas: I love color washing my canvas, it's easy and really fast. I just add a little bit of acrylic paint to water and go over the surface. Before it dries I add another color and mix them together on the canvas. This creates a real cool look of changing colors.

2. Writing on canvas: the best way to write on canvas is with a pen that has a nib in its end, like a dip pen or a fountain pen. The flow of the ink makes the writing easier on the surface of the fabric. I used black ink and wrote a few inspirational words.

3. Adding texture to canvas: since the canvas is a kind of fabric I went with that theme and added ruffled ribbon, bubble ribbon and buttons. I sewed them with an orange thread so they will pop up a little bit.

4. Stamping on canvas: the best way to stamp canvas is with big foam stamps dipped in acrylic paints. I used  a stamp of a flower with leaves. After stamping it on the canvas I added some more colors to the petals with a small brush to give it more dimension.

Try these techniques and create a treat for you too!

Little black dress

Apparently the little black dress is not only a must in fashion; it also has a place in cards! This is a multipurpose card that is good for any girly occasion: birthday, graduation, even as an untraditional wedding greeting card. I cut the dress from Bella BLVD Socialite patterned paper and added some embellishments to jazz it up a little bit. I made some ruffles from patterned paper and added a paper strip and a ribbon. I arranged the title: congratulations to be a part of the dress's design.

Have a great week!

Imagine a tower – Photography tips

This is another DT layout I did for My Punch with a series of photos showing my son building a tower. I love these photos because they're shot from an angle that shows the building experience and the height of the tower. I'm not a professional photographer, but I like taking pictures of almost anything. I always have a camera with me, so I' won't miss anything.

I wanted to share with all of you a few photography tips I used in these photos:

1. Up close and personal – take the photo from a close distance to eliminate as many disruptions in the background as possible. We spent that day in a big playground so there were many kids, toys and parents in the background.

2. Find the right angle: find the angle that will help you tell the story in the photo. This story is about building a tower, so I got down on my knees and shot the photo looking up at him. This way I could enhance the height of the tower.

3. Photograph the process: take a series of photos from the beginning to the end of the story. I captured the whole building and destroying process.

To complete the story in the photos I added to the layout a patterned paper with numbers that reminded me of floors in a building and "built" a tower of my own using blocks of paper and "number blocks" I cut from the patterned paper. I created more dimension by adhering some of them with 3D foam tape.
To further emphasize the height atmosphere, I added two arrows to the layout, one pointing at the word "tower" and the other pointing up. I used a mixture of fun words and letters for my title to give the layout a playful feel to it.

I don't know what he enjoyed more building the tower or pushing it to the floor when it was done, but it was definitely a very fun day and a real joy to create this LO!

On the train

My kids love anything with wheels. It doesn't matter what as long as it's rolling' and moving fast. This is a DT layout I did for My Punch, showing photos of my kids riding a train at the fair. They really enjoyed it even though it was moving slow in a circle and didn't go anywhere.

I added a few handmade embellishments to the layout: a rainbow I cut from a scalloped paper, sewed clouds and two wheels with sewed accents as journaling blocks.

Climbing trees – Technique Corner

My boys just love to climb trees whenever they can find them. On one of our trips I managed to take some great photos of them on the tree branches. These photos were just perfect for a layout. This is a DT layout I did for "My Punch" with the amazing Jack & Jill collection by Prima. I wanted to create a scene that would show my kids climbing on tree tops.

To create this look I used some fun techniques:
1. Creating tree tops:
* start with the Sugar Skies paper that has a neutral background and add branches cut from Green Fields patterned paper.
*Cut only the trees from the photos and add foliage cut from Sunny Meadow
paper.
This way you'll create a picture of climbing the branches of the trees.

2. Creating grass: for the grass part of the layout I layered pieces from Sunny Meadowpaper and then    created 3D grass from a pleated ribbon:
*Cut or tear paper and layer it on the bottom of your layout.
* Cut slits in the paper where you want to insert the ribbons.
* Pleat the ribbon and insert it into the slit.
* Adhere the layers to the layout.

3. Creative title: arrange your title in a "climbing mode" going up or down the branches.

Try these techniques to create your own tree scene or nature scene with grass.
