Kiki Art blog hop - win a prize!

Welcome to the first Kiki Art design team blog hop, which we like to call a BLOG HOPSCOTCH! It will run during National Scrapbook Day weekend from Thursday, April 29th until Monday, May 3rd.

If you want to join us, start at any blog from the list below and start hopping. Make sure you stop by all the blogs of our talented design team members. Also please make sure to visit the Kiki Art blogs (English, Spanish and French) to be eligible to win a prize!

Each design team member was asked to select a cause close to their heart. And then, created a project based on their organization featuring Kiki Art products. I chose  "ALUT" an Israeli organization helping autistic people. This is a tribute to my son, who has PDD (a high functioning form of autism). Make sure to take note of each organization/good cause each DT member has selected.

When you hop from blog to blog, hopefully you will get inspired by all of the beautiful Kiki Art work. We also hope that you are inspired to do good by getting involved in an effort to create a better world for all of us through these organizations.
You can win two prizes:
For your chance to win, you need to leave a comment on the Kiki Art blog letting us know which blog(s) were your favorite during our blog hop and what organization was displayed on that blog. (Don't limit yourself! You can choose as many blogs as you want!)

Many members of our design team, including me, have decided to give away a project that is related to the good cause they believe in. All you need to do is to leave a comment on my blog hop post, and I will pick a random winner. You will win a LOVE word mini album titled: "unconditional love". The kind of love I have for my son and the kind of love you have for someone special. Here are some of the surprises waiting inside the mini album.
All winners will be announced on Tuesday, May 4th!

Let the BLOG HOPSCOTCH begin!!! Get inspired and enjoy!

Happy Box

It's time for a new Sizzix blog hop! This time our challenge was to design a rectangular box. Every time I design one of Eileen's Dies I simply can't wipe the smile of my face. They are so cute, and so much fun to play with. I love boxes, especially if they're small and I can put cute little things in them. I knew exactly what to do with this box. It will be my HAPPY BOX, where I can put things that make me happy.

First I covered the box with an amazing K&Company's vintage patterned paper. Then I decided to try something I have never tried before. I wanted to challenge myself, so I sewed flowers from fabric and ribbon, and attached them to the box. I managed to give them a little bit of a sculpted look. I cut the leaves from Mesh and paper and gave them a little wave for a dimensional look.

If you enjoyed seeing these ScoreBoard projects on the hop, please leave a comment here or on Eileen Hull's blog so we know you stopped by.

Design Team Memeber

During the last CHA show I met Kiki, a very nice lady from Canada who owns KikiArt. Her company is based in Montreal and influenced by the many cultures, languages and stories in the city. I was so honored when Kiki asked me to join her international design team. My first design as a designer team member was this cute layout that was posted in the KikiArt blog.

This layout tells the story of PURIM, a Jewish holiday celebrated on March. This is a holiday celebrating the miraculous saving of the Jewish people from annihilation, by the Persian Empire in the 4th century BCE. The story is told in the biblical book of Esther. It is the only book in the bible that does not mention the name of God and all his work is done by others. That is why one of the customs of the holiday is to wear costumes, to be someone else (like God in the story) as well as having costumes parties.

Every year my oldest son comes up with the most original costume idea. This year he decided to be a Gardner (that is what the title said). The journaling is: “every PURIM you find an original and wonderful idea for a costume. This time you decided to be a Gardner. So I sowed flowers to a shirt, attached a butterfly to a hat, added a funnel and a rake and the costume was ready!”

To create the tree I cut the amazing tree from the Arbol Magico paper . It was too sparkly for me, so I sanded it and stained it with brown ink. I made the leaves from circles I cut from the MariposasGW paper. The flowers were also cut from that paper and adhered with pop up glue dots.

The butterflies were made from Arbol Magico and Arco Iris papers I cut in my cuttlebug machine. The die was of a flower, but by adding a body and lifting the wings it became a butterfly.

The products I used:
patterned papers: Antologia JARDIN – MariposasGW, Antologia MAGICA – Arco Iris, Arbol Magico. Diecuts: Antologia MAGICA

A recipe for...

I am a big fan of recyceling. I love altered art and the fact that you can take something and turn it to something completly different. Every week I throw the milk carton and think to my self, if only I could do something with it...

and then I thought of a great ides: A recipe box! I will turn the milk carton to a special place for my recipes.
All the recipes will be written on cards and they will be organized, standing up right, in the box.
After I washed it I covered it with paper. I cut the box on three sides, leaving the back intact. Keeping it closed was tricky, I wanted it to be nice but strong, so I decided to use a ribbon that can be tied and opened. The only question was how to connect the ribbon to both sides.

For the bottom part I used a chipboard tag and for the upper part I used chipboard letters to spell "recipes", the letter P was the other hole. I embellished it with a real teaspoon and a small cook's hat. On the other side there is a little notice board for notes and the other side is embellished with circles with a cooking theme.

Sizzix ScoreBoard blog hop

I was invited to participate in a blog hop. What is a blog hop? The answer is simple! Eileen Hull, a fellow CHA designer has designed some new Dies for Sizzix, so she assembled a group of tallented designers to play with this soon-to-be-released line. It is amazing to see what can be done with the Die-cuts. Scroll down to the end of the post to find the links and start hopping from blog to blog!
This blog hop is not only fun for us designers, it is fun for you too, because there are prizes!  one prize will go to the designer and the other will go to one lucky reader! All you have to do is vote on Eileen's blog for your favorite project, and leave a comment on one of the participating blog to be eligible to win a ScoreBoard Die from the first collection. Voting ends on Monday the following the Wednesday hop at 6 PM.

This week we designed the Teacup Die. A cute 3D tea cup, with a littla tray. As soon as I saw it I knew what I was going to do.
I have a big problem..when ever I sit at my desk to work, I forget to get up. I don't eat, drink or even go to the bathroom. This Die was the answer! I decided to make myself a message, a reminder: "Don't forget to take a (tea) BREAK". I will keep it on my desk, in my work room, and everytime I'll look up there it will be, reminding me to take a break.

I played with it a little bit, untill I got the idea of TIME as a theme. Time being the thing that eludes me all the time...

First, I painted everything in a green acrylic paint and inked the edges. I masked and inked the surface and stamped it. I adhered a clock with hands with 3D tape and added stickers. The pop-up cup on the little tray was made by stamping a piece of cardstock and adhereing it to the tray.
The pole was made from a metal wire. I painted both signs with the same green color and inked the edges. I made two loops from the metal wire and inserted a clocked that was stamped on a piece of cardstock.
Materials I used: mask: Tim Holtz Timeworks mask; stamps:Inkadinkado, Recollections;ink: StazOn, Colorbox; clock: MayaRoad; stickers: 7 Gypsies; metal wire; arrow:BoBunny.
